East Meets West Fine Wines and TANAKA 1789 X CHARTIER Luxury Sake Sign an Exclusive Import and Distribution Agreement for Hong Kong and Macau

Shanghai, 1st July, 2021 – East Meets West Fine Wines (Shanghai) Limited (EMW) and TANAKA 1789 X CHARTIER Sake Brand, from Tanaka Brewery founded in 1789 in Miyagi Prefecture, signed an exclusive Import and Distribution Agreement for Hong Kong and Macau, China.

 

 

The New Art of Sake Blending

 

François Chartier, the Canadian-born aroma specialist and world-famous sommelier, was surprised to learn in early 2017 that as it is with Champagne, great wines, whiskies, sherries and port, the idea of blending has never been part of Japan's sake culture. He wanted to change that. Meanwhile, the elegance, freshness and vivid acidity of some fine white wines (like those from Burgundy and the Loire Valley) also inspired Chartier. He believed sake can resemble those wine styles, without compromising its original soul.

 

So François Chartier came to the concept of the "The new art of sake blending" inspired by his science of molecular harmonies, which allowed him to make new handcrafted sakes using a blending method that augments, magnifies, and multiplies sakes through the magical skill of a "master blender" like Chartier. The result has been the birth of a revolutionary new line of sakes, TANAKA 1789 X CHARTIER.

In 2017, Canadian-born aroma specialist François Chartier developed TANAKA 1789 X CHARTIER’s first vintage project of Blend 001, thus creating “The new art of sake blending” in Japan and revolutionizing the production of Japanese sakes, using the principle of blending, as with grand crus wines from Bordeaux, or as it is the case with champagnes, sherry, ports, cognac and whiskies. He obtains a variety of different base sakes to be used in his innovative blending process, and each blend is different in texture, flavor, color and, of course, aroma: making room for individuality.
